A video of President Rodrigo Duterte's reaction after shaking hands with Senator Leila De Lima had caught the attention on the social media sites.
The incident happened just before President Duterte delivers his first State of the Nation Address (SONA). The President approached Senator De Lima on his way to the podium, as if there were no tensions happened to them in the past few months. De Lima was surprised when President Duterte approached her and extended his hand to her.
According to the senator, "the President didn't say anything, he just smiled at me." All I could do by that time is to tell our President "Hi Sir."
It can be recalled that Senator De Lima accused the President that he has no capabilities at all to be the next President of the Philippines with her statement: "If you have no respect for human rights, you also have no respect for the law, so how can he lead our country if that is his belief?"
On the other hand, President Duterte was not threatened and intimidated by Senator de Lima. In fact, the President gave his response to De Lima's accusation during the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).
What happened earlier when President Duterte approached Senator De Lima and shake hands with her was an act of his respect and his willingness to cooperate with everyone even with conflicts.
