Francesco Bove, a 62-year old man was heading to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church when two pit bulls suddenly broke free from their owner and began attacking him and almost killed him.
The gruesome attack was captured on video from the window of a tenement in the Bronx, New York. The pit bulls are seen clamping onto Bove's arms with their jaws, shaking their heads violently, dragging him several feet toward the curb.
The dog's owner, Cynthia Oliver tried to break the attack but her ferocious pit bulls were unstoppable. People try to stop the assault by swinging a chain at the animals and spraying them with water. They managed to help Bove but the pitbulls began attacking other people.
The pitbull's attack was so dreadful that a priest started giving the man last rites. "I think I'm going to die," the bloodied 62-year-old artist told the priest. But the priest made him promise that he will fight until the end.

The man underwent five hours of surgery due to the severe wounds he suffered during the attack, including two big chunks taken from both arms and an ear torn to shreads. His severed ear was reconstructed. He suffered nerve damage in his hands and hasn't able to move his fingers, according to the son named Anthony Bove.
Despite the vicious attack, the man has remained positive during his recuperation and even joked to his son that at least he wasn’t attacked by a lion.
Oliver, the pitbull's owner was taken to a hospital for psychological evaluation before she was arrested on eight counts of assault and two counts of reckless endangerment. The pitbulls are now in the custody of animal control authorities.
