Philippines Wins Arbitration Case Against China Over West Philippine Sea


The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) has decided to be in favor of the Philippines versus China after three years of negotiating and fighting for the rights over West Philippine Sea.

The Tribunal said and concluded on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 that there is no legal basis in China's historic claims and that it violated the sovereign rights of the Philippines.

China has refused to participate in the proceedings saying it does not recognize the jurisdiction of the tribunal and has reiterated that it will not abide by any decision of the court.



Incoming Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Jr. said he is open to bilateral or one-on-one talks with their leaders.

After the ruling was released, the Department of Foreign Affairs advises Filipinos staying in China to be more vigilant as the news will surely sparks tension and dilemma between them and the Chinese.
