The terrorist Group of Abu Sayyaf on Saturday claimed responsibility for an explosion in Davao City night market, that killed 14 people and at least 60 others injured, and warned of more attacks "in the coming days."
Abu Rami, Abu Sayyaf spokeperson said the Davao attack is a "call for unity to all mujahideen in the country" amid the all-out offensive of the military against the group.
Abu Rami said that the attack in Davao City is not part of a tactic to divert the attention of government forces who have been pursuing the bandits in Sulu and Basilan.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier this week ordered intensified military operations against the 400-strong group, following the death of 15 soldiers in a clash in Patikul, Sulu.
After the explosion in Davao, Duterte also declared a "state of lawlessness,"over the city. He said it is not martial law but a hightened security measure in which checkpoints would be set up and searches will be conducted to bring to justice those responsible for the bombing.
The chief executive emphasized that Friday night's bombing incident was a police matter.
The Davao City bombing occured after the ASG warned that they will retaliate against the intensified military operations in Sulu.
