Senator Manny Pacquiao, a boxing champ had urged investigation on the alleged irregularities in the distribution of shelters to Yolanda victims under the Aquino administration. Typhoon Yolanda left more than 6,000 people dead in 2013.
Department of Social Welfare and Development Secreatary Judy Taguiwalo revealed in a press briefing in Malacanang that about 200,000 typhoon survivors have claimed that they are still waiting for the shelters promised to them by the Aquino administration.
According to her, in general, the money for typhoon victims went to the intended recipients “but there are cases of irregularities, non-compliance, or non-implementation.”
“But this is a minority. Even then, you know, even if involves only one municipality, for example, that is unacceptable because this is money given to our people.”
Meanwhile, Pacquiao was disappointed towards the heartless people who would turn their backs on the many who suffered while they enacted their selfish plans.

According to him: “Corruption in the distribution of aids to calamity victims must be stopped. Biktima na nga, kinakawawa at inaabuso pa.”
The senator hailed the DSWD, NDRRMC including other government agencies involved in mapping out plans to cushion the impact of super Typhoon Lawin, which battered several places in Northern Luzon.
