11-Year Old Boy Who Slowly Turning Into Stone Suffered Skin Condition That Makes Him A Statue

An 11-year old boy from Baglung, Nepal named Ramesh Kumari had been suffering from a rare condition which is slowly turning him to stone and has robbed his ability to talk and even walk. He has frozen his body and limbs into twisted shapes.

Ramesh displayed symptoms of Ichthyosis at just a few weeks old. His skin began to peel and was replaced thick, black scales. His scaly appearance terrifies other children, leaving Ramesh isolated and with no friends.

Ichthyosis is a long-term condition that results in hard 'fish scales' forming on the skin and is caused by a faulty gene passed down from parents.

There is no cure for the disease but it can be managed by daily skincare and other medications.

Nanda, Ramesh father is a labourer and were unable to afford medical care for his son. But he has found hope from British singer Joss Stone who has raised much-needed funds for his medical treatment.

Ramesh's luck changed when a video of him struggling was shared on social media - and it was spotted by the acclaimed Nepalese singer Sanjay Shrestha, who happened to be helping Stone organize a concert.

The concert in Kathamandu raised £1,375 for his treatment through the Joss Stone Foundation.

Joss spent the day with Ramesh, showering him with gifts and chocolates. Ramesh was overjoyed by the presents.

Ramesh is now receiving treatment at the Kathmandu Medical College, where doctors remain hopeful they may be able to make his life easier.

Dr. Sabina Bhattrai, assistant dermatology professor said:  "He was in a really bad state when he was admitted. We had to remove the scales from his body and it was painful.

"Over a period of two weeks we gave him antibiotics to avoid infections and applied drugs and moisturizer on his body to remove the dead skin."
‘His inability to move is because he’s been left for too long. But since his bones and muscles were not weak by birth we can try to work on them and with some physiotherapy I’m hopeful we can make him stand again.
