Nadia Montenegro Reveals Energy Drink Caused Her Blindness in One Eye

Veteran actress Nadia Montenegro has disclosed the possible reason behind her blindness in one eye. In an exclusive interview with Julius Babao, Nadia shared a harrowing experience that occurred during a golf tournament in 2008.

The Incident

Nadia recounted that during the tournament, she was extremely hungry and thirsty. The only drink available at the event was an energy drink, which she decided to consume. However, shortly after drinking it, she began to experience severe stomach cramps.

“I drank an energy drink at a golf tournament because I was very hungry and thirsty, and it was the first thing I saw,” Nadia explained. “After an hour, I thought I would have diarrhea, but when I went to the bathroom, I saw blood. My stomach had been perforated.”

Emergency Hospitalization

Nadia was rushed to a hospital in Cavite due to the severe bleeding. Given the critical nature of her condition, she was transferred to St. Luke’s Medical Center. According to Nadia, the bleeding she experienced affected her eyes, leading to blindness in both eyes temporarily.

A Miraculous Recovery

Fortunately, the doctors were able to save one of her eyes. Nadia underwent three surgeries, which helped restore her vision in one eye. “I can see now. It’s a miracle. I was medically blind because 70% of my retina was torn, but thanks to my doctor, Naval, I can now see,” Nadia said in a 2009 interview.

Nadia’s Struggle and Awareness

The ordeal caused Nadia immense depression, as she revealed in her interview with Julius Babao. The incident not only threatened her life but also resulted in the permanent loss of vision in one eye. She emphasized the severe impact the energy drink had on her health, leading to a perforated stomach and subsequent complications.

Nadia’s story serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with energy drinks and the importance of being mindful of what we consume, especially under extreme conditions of hunger and thirst.
