Singer Gerald Santos has publicly named Danny Tan as the musical director who allegedly abus3d him when he was just 15 years old, marking a significant revelation in the ongoing Senate discussions about s3xu4l har4ssm3nt in the entertainment industry.
"Ngayon po ay handa ko ng harapin ang tunay kong kalaban. Ang nangh4l4y at umabus0 sa akin noon ako po ay 15 years old pa lamang. Si Mr. Danny Tan," Santos stated during his emotional testimony.
Recalling the events from nearly two decades ago, Santos described the experience as a form of "mental, psychological, and emotional torture." He explained that the recent case of Sandro Muhlach, who also alleged 4bus3 in the industry, brought back the pain he endured during December 25 and 26 of 2005.
Santos tearfully shared that he struggled with suicidal thoughts as a teenager, but his determination to lift his family out of poverty kept him going.
"Sa gulang po na 15 years old ay naranasan ko ang pinakamapait na maaring maranasan ng isang bata, pero dahil po sa aking narundog na pangarap na maihaon ng aking pamilya sa kahirapan ay pinilit ko pong kalimutan ang pangyayaring ito sa aking puso at isipan," he said.
The singer also disclosed that it took him five years to gather the courage to file a complaint in 2010, as he felt powerless and alone. He urged lawmakers to extend the prescription period for filing cases of s3xu4l har4ssm3nt and abuse, especially in instances of male rpe, citing the difficulty many victims face in coming forward.
Santos expressed gratitude towards GMA Network for dismissing Tan after his initial complaint but noted that he had wished for more transparency regarding the investigation’s outcome. He also apologized for any negative fallout the network might have faced due to his recent public statements, reaffirming his appreciation for the platform they provided him in his career.
As the Senate hearings continue, Santos’s revelation adds another layer to the scrutiny of the entertainment industry’s treatment of young talents. The investigation was initially prompted by Sandro Muhlach's allegations against GMA Network's independent contractors, and the Department of Justice is currently reviewing the case.
Danny Tan has yet to respond to Santos's accusations.
