PNP Chief Dela Rosa made the claim Wednesday, saying the drug lord is an incumbent mayor from Mindanao who wants to stop government's crackdown on narcotics.
He said this in a press conference in Davao City on Tuesday.
Dela Rosa added that he is also being targeted by the drug lords because of their intensified campaign against illegal drugs. He had been receiving threaths but he is not afraid of them.
"Sanay naman tayo. Tatanggapin ko. I am ready to die anytime. Di ako takot mamatay. Di tayo natatakot diyan. Bahala sila," he said.
He can take my life anytime. Wag kayong mag-alala hindi ako takot," he added.
Despite the alleged assassination threat, Dela Rosa said he will not tighten his personal security to stop going to public places where he is often swamped by adoring crowds.
Dela Rosa earlier said that drug lords have raised the bounty to kill him and President Duterte from P10 million to P50 million.
