Rosanna Roces, a cast member of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, has publicly expressed her desire to assist a security guard who lost his job after being involved in a controversial incident captured in a viral video. The video showed an altercation between the guard and an 18-year-old student selling Sampaguita.
In her heartfelt Facebook post, Roces appealed, “TULUNGAN natin si Guard… kawawa may pamilya yan.” She also requested the help of DZRH radio host Morly Alinio to locate the guard and offer support.
The incident started when the student, sitting on the stairs of a well-known mall, was asked to leave by the security guard. However, the situation escalated when the guard destroyed the student’s Sampaguita flowers. In retaliation, the student struck the guard with the flowers, leading to the guard kicking the teenager.

A Divided Public Reaction
The video quickly sparked public outrage and divided opinions. Some speculated that the student was part of a syndicate, while others criticized the guard’s aggressive behavior. One netizen asked, “Granting na miyembro nga pero bata ‘yun, bakit kailangan saktan ng sekyu? Wala ba siyang anak na babae?”
Further investigation by the Mandaluyong Police revealed that the student was a scholar who sold Sampaguita to support her family’s financial needs.
Security Agency's Apology and Ongoing Investigation
REDEYE II MANAGEMENT, the security agency responsible for the guard, issued an apology, stating:
“We sincerely apologize for the actions displayed in the video and assure everyone that we are already conducting due process with the guard involved. May this serve as a reminder to all agencies of the values we must uphold in performing our duties. It is crucial to prioritize de-escalation and avoid letting emotions take control of our actions.”
Rosanna Roces Advocates for Understanding and Support
Despite the backlash, Rosanna Roces called for compassion and understanding for the security guard. She emphasized that the guard is a legitimate worker who may have acted out of strong emotions in a difficult moment. Roces explained, “Magiging precedent ‘yan. Babastusin na lahat ng guard na ginagawa lang ang trabaho nila.”

She expressed concern for the guard’s family, stating, “Dun tayo sa Guard… nagta-trabaho ng Legal yan hindi nagpapanggap na guard lang. No to palimos at iba pang uri ng pangloloko!”
Roces’s actions highlight her known kindness and generosity, which she rarely publicizes. Her call to help the guard reflects her belief in fairness and empathy, particularly for workers who may face undue hardship due to single incidents.
A Call for Unity
As the incident continues to draw attention, Roces urges for unity and understanding among the public. She hopes her efforts to assist the guard will encourage others to support one another in challenging situations.
The viral case serves as a reminder of the need to balance enforcing rules with compassion, especially when dealing with individuals trying to make an honest living.
