Pampanga Rep. Gloria Arroyo, the former president, had her support behind President Duterte's declaration of a 'state of lawlessness' following the deadly blast in Davao City last Friday, September 3.
According to Mrs. Arroyo, President Duterte was in the best position to declare a state of lawlessness to crush any threat to the country's peace and order.
''President Duterte is a much stronger leader than I am so if I could handle them, he can handle them even better," said Mrs. Arroyo. Duterte no longer needs her help as the latter has had enough experience, having served as her adviser on peace and order when she was chief executive.
In 2003, then-President Arroyo announced a "state of lawless violence" following a bombing in Davao City but its scope was limited to that area.
Mrs. Arroyo said she is confident of Duterte’s ability to handle the crisis in Davao City since he had served as her adviser on peace and order when he was still a mayor.
“President Duterte knows all the lessons already. He was helping me all the time when he was my adviser. He knows my experience, he knows all the lessons,” Mrs. Arroyo added.
