Police authorities discovered the lifeless body of an 8-year old Grade II student floating in the dirty river in Bacoor, Cavite. The student was identifed as Rosemelinda Gardon who had numerous wounds covering her face and body.
According to local police, autopsy revealed that the girl was raped before being killed by the four suspects.
Four suspects namely Rowell Dela Cruz, Nico Zamora, Jessie Aguilar and Reynaldo Dela Cruz were immediately arrested after two witnesses positively identified them.
A certain Mang Ador said that the four suspects were having a drinking session while feeding the poor girl when they invited him to have a shot. He joined them for a while but went home ahead of the four suspects. Mang Ador was shocked that the girl was found dead the following day.
Another witness told the police authorities that he saw the four suspects throwing the girl's body into the river in Bacoor, Cavite.
After receiving reports, the police acted immediately that lead to the arrest of drug addicts. Rowell and Nico were arrested first. They confessed to the crime and told police the names of their two companions; however, when they tried to grab the policemen’s guns in the car, they were shot. The two died on the spot. Jessie and Reynaldo were subsequently arrested.
The cops believed that the four suspects are under the influence of illegal drugs, heightening the concerns of many Filipinos regarding the anti-drug campaign.
Meanwhile, the parents of the poor girl were shocked and in grief after finding out the news about their daughter. According to her mother, she did not know that a niece had asked the girl to run an errand to buy dinner.
