These Lovers Who Died 2,800 Years Ago Appeared Like They Are Kissing Each Other Before They Died. Their Gesture Of Love Is An 'Eternal Kiss'

Archaeologists from University of Pennysylvania have discovered that the Hasanlu lovers died 800 BC and so they are estimating that the skeletons were around 2,800 years old.

The left skeleton is female and the right is male. Both were around 5 feet 2 inches in height. These human remains were unearthed in 1972 at the Teppe Hasanlu archaelogical site, located in the Solduz Valley in the West Azerbaijan Province of Iran.

The site was burned after a military attack. The skeletons were found in a plaster grain bin, probably hiding from soldiers. Speculations on the cause of death is asphyxiation since the bodies were found inside a bin with a stone slab. Others note the hole in the skull of the male skeleton suggesting some form of struggle took place. He might have been beaten to the head with an object, and perhaps out of love- the female joined him in his death, dying while kissing her beloved.

The image depicts two human skeletons, seemingly in an embrace, which earned the photograph its title The 2800 Years Old Kiss.
