Duterte Administration to Lengthen Passport Validity

Easing the burden of our OFWs, incoming President Rodrigo Duterte will order the extension of passport validity.

The incoming  administration of President Rodrigo  Duterte plans to extent the validity of Philippine passports since the other countries like USA already have a 10-year VISA issuance.

Incoming Budget Secretary, Dr. Benjamin Diokno , said he will immediately endorse the measure to the president once he assumes his post..  He will recommend that renewal of passports  will be every ten years  from the current 5-year validity. Aside form the passport extension. The new administration also aims to extend the renewal of  driver’s licenses  from three years he will recommend will be valid up to five years.

On the other hand, DFA Assistant Secretary Frank Cimafranca said that amending the passport law would also increase the cost. According to him, the current passport totals 44 pages and if changes will be made to the length of validity, it could increase up to 60 pages which would still increase the application cost.
