97-Year Old Tattoo Artist In Kalinga Has A Message For Coco Martin

Whang-od Oggay, a 97-year old Filipina tattoo artist from Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga is the oldest traditional tattoo artist. She has a message for Coco Martin, the star of ABS-CBN's "Ang Probinsiyano."

The tattoo artist can be heard asking Coco Martin to pay visit in her village in Buscalan, Kalinga. "Umari agkos sina Fus-aran [Come, visit here in Buscalan]," she said. This video was shared by Martin on his Instagram account.

Tourists who visited the tattoo artist said Whang-od is a huge fan of Martin. One tourist even photographed Whang-od while holding a paper containing the words: "Hi Coco Martin. I want to see you in person."

After an overwhelming demand from netizens to recognize Whang-od as a national artist, representatives from the National Commission on Culture and the Arts are currently doing a review of the tattoo artist to determine if Whang-od can be declared a National Living Treasure.

Tattooed by: Whang-od Oggay Born in 1918 Apo Whang-od is the oldest and last traditional "mambabatok" (tattoo artist) of Kalinga, Philippines. She has been visited by several tourists, international and local actors, and has even been featured in several newspapers and magazines all over the world. In our short trip to visit her we found out that she is a big fan of Coco Martin and was even wearing a shirt with his recent series Ang Probinsyano. Also she was a bit shy and like a young girl that blushed a lot when we asked her to look at our mobile phones camera so we can send this video, with her fans and Coco's fan help let them both meet. For someone her age and yet still making the country proud and admired worldwide for her gift in art, I say letting her meet her crush. Share this until it reaches Coco Martin. ;) maraming salamat po!!!
