A Thai garbage collector named Kanittha "Mint" Pasaeng grew up in poverty. She collected garbage with her mother in Thailand as a means to survive.
Khanittha won the Miss Uncensored News 2015 pageant on Monday. But things nearly turned ugly when organizers discovered she had "lied" about her educational background.
On the application form, it was written that Khanittha had passed Mathayom 6 (Level 12), a lie organisers only discovered when a university contacted them to offer the 17-year-old a scholarship. In reality, she had only passed Mathayom 3.

Rumours circulated that she’d be stripped from her crown, and Khanittha begged the committee on local television and media to let her remain a beauty queen winner because she had already passed on the prize money to her family.

The garbage collector apologized to contest organizer Somchai Leknoi stating that she had no intention of lying, having failed to check the application which was filled by her uncle.

Khannitha then became a beloved star in her country after she was photographed returning home after her win to kiss her mother's feet to say thank you. Dressed in her beauty queen dress and wearing her crown, Khannitha was snapped sitting with her family in her humble home.

Many people praised her as an “ordinary girl” who is “down to earth” after she was seen doing the house chores and sorting through recyclables in the street alongside her mother.
