It was around 10 p.m. when the blast happened in Davao City Night Market on September 3.
One of the survivors in the said explosion is Isel Jhian Abad, a graduating mass communication student. She recalls her traumatic experience as she saw bodies falling dead on the floor. She was fortunate enough to be given a second chance after being on the brink of life and death.
The Davao bombing killed one of Isel's friends and injured her schoolmate. She broke down in tears after answering questions on recalling the painful tragedy.
According to her“Pag ma recall nako to kagabii makahilak ko now. (When I recall what transpired last night, I can’t help but cry). Kay exactly mga ingun ani na oras nahitabo ang pagbomba (It was around this time when it happened)…. Sakit lang jud sa akoang part na makita sa akoang atubangan ang pagkapatay sa mga tao na nagbarog pa (It hurts to see people falling to their deaths in front of me),”
Before the explosion happened, she was still able to see people smiling and laughing. She was still able to see children running around, singing songs in exchange for coins. Everything was orderly, but all of it turned into shambles after a loud bang was heard.
The laughing, singing, and merry-making faded away and were replaced by screams, cries, and the horrific sight of death.
In her post, she also said that she did not know which direction to run. She did not even notice her bag was open and her things were already falling, including her laptop and wallet. She wanted to go back and pick those up; however, what she wanted more was to live. So she continued running.
Isel is now safe and so with her family. She hurt her right knee but the scar in her heart is the most painful.
She said people of Davao are strong and will rise up after this incident. The people of Davao will also continue to support the cause and fight of President Duterte, Isel added.
