A heroic deed of a fireman named Fire Officer 2 Florencio Asonza has been awarded with the Medalya ng Katapangan or Medal of Bravery after rescuing a one-year old boy and several others in a condominium fire in Quezon City.
The said fireman suffered carbon-monoxide poisoning after he selflessly let the child use his breathing apparatus amid the thick smoke of the fire. Asonza is now being treated at the Chinese General Hospital and a doctor said his heart was damaged.
Meanwhile, the following firemen also received Medalya ng Kadakilaan for the rescue of the mother and her newborn:

These firemen helped a mother, while carrying her one-week old infant to escape the condo fire in Quezon City. They set up a steel plank and safety harness so the mother and child could cross to the other building while a number of floors up.
