Beware: Cheap Cosmetics And Beauty Products Might Cause Skin Cancer And Eventually Death

Buying cheaper cosmetics and beauty products is nothing wrong if we wanted to look good and save money. But make sure to buy those products from reliable sources. Avoid retailers without product registration from local FDA. The cheap cosmetics may cause more harm than good.

International news outlet New Straits Times assembled a special probe team to conduct an investigative documentary. They aimed to look into thebillion-dollar industry of cosmetics and beauty products in Asia.

One of the problems of the industry is the lack of regulation. Because of the ASEAN Cosmetics Directive (ACD) in 2008, a lot of cosmetics and beauty products are allowed into various markets without undergoing any toxicity, safety tests or other necessary lab tests.

Some of the harmful substances found on these supposedly safe cosmetics are: Hydroquinone and Mercury– Used mostly for skin-whitening purposes but these can be neurotoxins that can cause facial paralysis.

Most of these harmful components found can cause mild effects from skin irritation, redness and swelling, skin allergies, and thinning of the skin. But the more major complication of chronic usage can be skin cancer, kidney problems (when too much heavy metal seeps into the skin and into the bloodstream or through direct injection of whitening products), Ochronosis (having a bluish hue on the skin) and eventually death.
