Gloria Diaz, the country's first Miss Universe winner who won the crown in 1969 has a message for Maxine Medina, the current Philippine representative in the international beauty pageant.

During the Governor's Ball On Monday, January 16, Gloria Diaz has advice Maxine to get an interpreter. According to Gloria: “This is the first time I will meet Maxine and the first thing I will tell her is to get an interpreter if she feels that she can better express her thoughts using our vernacular language.”
Gloria stressed that speaking in Filipino during the Miss Universe pageant does not make her any less of a beauty queen.
“She is a Filipina and I don’t think it will make her less of a beauty queen if she will decide to use our language on the grand coronation,” Gloria said.
Maxene's pageant trainer has mentioned they are studying the possibility of getting an interpreter for the Filipina beauty queen.
According to Jonas Gaffud, who also trained Pia Wurtzbach for the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, “Ang sinasabi lang namin, kung ano ang nasa puso niya, sabihin niya. So ngayon kung kakailanganin niya para mas ma-convey niya ‘yung kanyang nasa puso at isip, e di sabihin lang niya.”
Meanwhile, Pia previously said there is nothing wrong with getting an interpreter in the Miss Universe pageant.
On January 30, 2017 Monday 8 a.m. (Manila time), watch the 65th Miss Universe coronation live on ABS-CBN Channel 2.

Huh, interpreter?😵😵 Bakit ngayon lang na beauty pageant? If we were having interpreters ever since...ok lang. This time pag kailangan ni Miss Medina ang INTERPRETER ...meaning walang naniniwala sa kanya na kayang niyang sumagot sa english. Hahaha. So funny. The bottomline....feeling ko kay Miss Gloria Diaz...nabobobohan siya kay Miss Medina. We are the 3rd largest population who speak english. NO INTERPRETER PLEASE...kahit di siya kasali sa top 20.
