A horse which was drawing a calesa along Magsaysay Boulevard was hit by a bus. According to witnesses, a Green Star passenger bus with body number 2205 and plate number ACD 4182 hit the said horse.
But instead of stopping, the Green Star bus sped on leaving the horse which suffers broken leg. The injured horse slumped beside a passenger jeepney.
The driver of the calesa named Dong Manson said he and his passenger also suffered bruises in the incident.
This photo was sent to James Deakin via his Facebook page by a witness. According to the sender: “Ngaun ngaun lng dto s harap ng Kapitan Kiko Motorshop along ramon magsaysay blvd. my isang kabayo na nsagi ng bus ng greenstar at humampas sa pampasaherong jeep pnabayaan lng ng driver ng bus tiinakbuhan ndi inintidi kawawa nman ung kabayo gamit sa panghanap buhay ni tatang ngaun pilay na kawawang kabayo ung plate number ng bus nsa pic pki tingin nlng sna pnagutan nmn ng driber ang ginwa nya.”
Meanwhile, The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has promised to help in the medical treatment of the horse and in the filing of charges against the driver of the bus for violating the Animal Welfare Act.
PAWS is also calling for calesas to be banned from city roads and confined to tourist areas like Intramuros for the safety of the animals.
