President-elect Rodrigo Duterte made a declaration during a thanksgiving dinner that he wants Algebra, Calculus and Trigonometry removed from school curriculum and replaced with Business Mathematics.
The dinner was hosted by two supporters of Duterte and his running mate Senator Alan Peter Cayetano at the Bonofacio Global City in Taguig.
Duterte pointed out that Business Mathematics is more practical subject. He noted that "most Filipinos suffer from Math anxiety like he does." Duterte admitted he got a failing grade in Economics.
Duterte said learning unnecessary numbers and signs in Mathematics does not serve any useful purpose. Students should not be pressured in school with "sine, cosine" as these are not applicable when they go job-hunting.
Subjects such as Geometry and Physics would remain in the curriculum, as these are practical and useful in one's daily life.

ReplyDeleteI think algebra prepares prepares kids for critical thinking. Knowledge of Trig and calculus teaches you of other mathematical principles. I think intro to all these will help but maybe limit it to intro of it before going to business math and understanding accounting.
ReplyDeleteAng totoong dapat ituro ay kung paano ka makakapasa ng mga entrance exam during job hunting. I mean. d ba? kailangan mo makapasa sa kanilang examination first before interview..So ano yung mga dapat ituro, yung math ba o yung paano karin makakapasa ng Civil Service? hahaha
