Hero Dog Dies After Saving 7 People Trapped In A Building After An Earthquake

A dog named Dayko is not just an ordinary hero -- he is man's best friend.

The hero dog, a four-year old white Labrador died after saving 7 people who were trapped inside a collapsed building after an Equador  earthquake struck on April 16.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Ecuadorean coast and the country continues to suffer from aftershocks.

Dayko formed part of the fire service and helped the team by sniffing out survivors who may not have been noticed. But a combination of heat, dehydration and the huge effort put into the rescue mission took its toll on the brave dog and he died.

The organization posted pictures of the 4-year-old Labrador in tribute to his heroism. Dayko received a massive sendoff, with a funeral attended by dozens of firefighters and other rescue workers as well as his fellow rescue dogs.

In an emotional post, the crew wrote: 'We regret to inform you that today the [fire service] is in mourning because [we] just lost Dayko who participated in the work of searching in Pedernales, the dog with national and international certifications, passed away in hours In the morning [sic].
