'Horror Queen' Lilia Cuntapay, Passes Away at 81


Philippine Cinema Horror Queen Lilia Cuntapay passed away Saturday morning at the age of 81.
Cuntapay, who suffered from a spinal cord ailment, died in her son’s home in Tartarabang, Pinili, Ilocos Norte.

In a video that recently surfaced online, Cuntapay appealed for help from showbiz personalities to cope with her medical expenses.

Actress Lilia Cuntapay was born in Cabiraoan village in Gonzaga, Cagayan on January 3, 1935. 
She is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Education and taught in the primary levels in a school in Tuguegarao.[2] After quitting teaching, Cuntapay ventured in the buy-and-sell business before taking a job at the National Police Commission (Napolcom)


Best known as the “Queen of Philippine Horror Movies”, 81-year-old Lilia Cuntapay has played scary creatures (often as a “manananggal,” “aswang,” or a white lady) in over 70 local films 
Cuntapay was among the 40 actors trained in the first batch of acting workshops for LVN Pictures and conducted Lori Reyes and Peque Gallaga.

In 2011, she won the Best Actress Award for her lead role in Antoinette Jadaone’s indie mockumentary  “Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay” at the Cinema One Originals Film Festival. The film won six awards.
