Mark your calendars as the Malacanang Palace has released on Thursday the list of regular and special non-working holidays in 2017.
REGULAR HOLIDAYS FOR 2017:
January 1 (Sunday) - New Year's Day
April 9 (Sunday) - Araw ng Kagitingan
April 13 (Thursday) - Maundy Thursday
April 14 (Friday) - Good Friday
May 1 (Monday) - Labor Day
June 12 (Monday) - Independence Day
August 28 (Monday) - National Heroes Day
November 30 (Thursday) - Bonifacio Day
December 25 (Monday) - Christmas Day
December 30 (Saturday) - Rizal Day
SPECIAL NON-WORKING DAYS FOR 2017:
January 28 (Saturday) - Chinese New Year
February 25 (Saturday) - EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary
April 15 (Saturday) - Black Saturday
August 21 (Monday) - Ninoy Aquino Day
October 31 (Tuesday) - Additional special non-working day
November 1 (Wednesday) - All Saints Day
December 31 (Sunday) - Last day of the year
The proclamation for the observance of Eid'l Fitr and Eidul Adha will be issued after the dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar.
The Department of Labor and Employment mandates that the following holiday pay rules be implemented:
A. If the day is the employee's regular workday:
If worked, [the employee] is entitled to 200% of his [or her] basic wage for the first eight (8) hours and, for work in excess of the 8 hours, an additional 30% of his or her hourly rate on the said day;
If unworked, the employee is entitled to 100% of his daily rate, provided he or she was present or was on leave with pay on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.
B. If the day is the employee's rest day:
If worked, the employee is entitled, for the first 8 hours, to 200% of his or her daily rate plus 30% and, for work in excess of 8 hours, plus 30% of his or her hourly rate on the said day;
If unworked, the employee is entitled to 100% of his or her daily rate, provided he or she was present or was on leave with pay on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.
C. Where the day immediately preceding the holiday is a non-work day in the establishment or the scheduled rest day of the employee, he or she shall not be deemed on leave of absence on that day, in which case he or she shall be entitled to the holiday pay.
