A Widow Before She Met Jesse? Viral Photo Claims Leni Robredo Was Married To Leftist In Her Teens ?

Maria Leonor Santo Tomas Gerona was born on April 23, 1964 in Naga, Camarines Sur, Philippines,
Gerona was educated in Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga City, graduating from Elementary in 1978, and from High School in 1982. She then graduated with a degree in Economics from the School of Economics of the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1986.

Leni returned to Naga City  after she graduated in UP Diliman to apply a job in Naga City. Leni”s first job was in Bicol River Basin Development Program (BRBDP), where she met Jesse . It was also Jesse (Program Director-BRBDP) who interviewed and hired her.  One year after their meeting, Jesse and Leni got married from 1987 until his death from a plane crash in 2012.

For almost a decade, Leni spent her time as lawyer doing pro-bono legal work for farmers, fishermen, abused women, urban poor and indigenous peoples. Then she was elected as congresswoman.

On October 5, 2015, Robredo announced that she would run for the post of Vice President of the Philippines under theLiberal Party in the 2016 election, as the running mate of presidential candidate Mar Roxas.[8] Robredo won the election narrowly defeating closest rival Senator Bongbong Marcos.

Today June 25 2016 Manila Philippines – There was a viral post, which has been spreading like wildfire online, The incoming vice president used to be the wife of a leftist unknown poor guy  from Cebu and  used to be her teenage sweetheart who was an active leftist during the martial law era who was killed by government forces under the regime of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.

The post, which came with a picture of a newlywed couple (see image capture below), claims that the woman in said photo was none other than Robredo and her first husband.

 However, followers of Robredo have also taken arms to defend the vice president-elect; with many calling the picture fake and libelous.
