Chinese President Has Ordered the People's Liberation Army to 'Prepare for Combat'

Xi Jinping, Chinese President, has ordered the People's Liberation Army to "Prepare for combat." This comes ahead of an international tribunal that's expected to issue an unfavorable ruling against China's claim over the South China Sea.

The instruction was given in case the United States takes provocative action in the waters once the ruling is made.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration said there was no evidence that China had historically exercised exclusive control over the waters or resources, reports the BBc.

China responded by labelling the ruling "ill-founded" and refused to be bound by it.

The Hague's ruling on Tuesday is binding but the court lacks powers of enforcement.
