Gretchen Felipe, a 24-year old runner from Itogon, Benguet was the champion of the Magnificent Merapoh Trail by the Asia Trail Master series held recently in Merapoh, Malaysia.
Gretchen had finished the 60-kilometer race in seven hours and 29 minutes to defeat 30 competitors from 25 countries.
The runner was able to go through the challenge. She almost passed out when she was dehydrated at one point in the race.

It was also when a monkey appeared which she considers as a "blessing in disguise." According to Gretchen, when she rested under a tree, a monkey appeared. She was scared; the monkey ran after her and she continued to run.
This was the first victory of Gretchen outside the country. Since she was in high school, Gretchen has been joining local marathons which helped her get a scholarship at the Cordillera Career Development College where she is currently taking up Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
