PNP Chief Director General 'Bato' Dela Rosa on Friday told Bernadette Reyes in an interview on QRT that he is ready to be jailed if accepting free tickets to boxing champ Pacquiao's recent fight in Las Vegas against Jesse Vargas as well as air fare accomodations and his family is a crime.
The PNP chief and Pacquiao are now under investigation by the Ombudsman for possible violation of laws prohibiting government officials from receiving gifts of substantial value. These laws include the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees and Presidential Decree No. 46.
"Basta ako, ang importante, sa aking pananaw, yung imbitasyon ni Senador Pacquiao na tinanggap ko naman, ay hindi po yun in consideration of my position (as the) chief of PNP," Dela Rosa said.
He also said that the boxing champ's offer was not a bribe because Pacquiao is not a criminal and the boxer did not use public funds in paying for the air fare and hotel expenses for him and his family.
