U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump Invites President Duterte To Visit The White House

On Friday December 2, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump had invited President Rodrigo Duterte thru telephone call to visit the White House next year during a "very engaging, animated" talk.

Duterte's special advisor  Christopher Go, known as Bong Go said in a text message to media that the call lasted just over 7 minutes.

President Duterte appeared to have changed his outlook of the Philippine's long-time security ally when he pointed out "similarities" between him and Trump. Some have drawn their similarities based on their unexpected rises to power and their controversial statements and provocative personalities.

“Ayaw kong makipag-away kasi nandyan na si Trump. I would like to congratulate President Trump. Mabuhay ka!” Duterte said in a speech before the Filipino community in Malaysia.

“Pareho tayo nagmumura. Konting rason lang, mura kaagad. Medyo pare-pareho kami."

Trump and Duterte's conversation could signal an improvement of ties between the U.S. and the Philippines -- the two long-time allies in the Pacific.

Meanwhile, President Duterte also invited Trump to the Philippines next year when the country chairs the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), Go said. It is tradition for the U.S. president to attend the proceedings.
