3-Year-Old Girl Playing Outside Run Over by Car in Cavite Subdivision

A three-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by a car while playing in a subdivision in Naic, Cavite.

According to a report by Jonathan Andal on 24 Oras Weekend last Saturday, the victim was identified as Harlene Rose Gascon.

CCTV footage from the subdivision in Barangay Halang captured the child playing alone outside near a parked green car around 6 p.m. Suddenly, the car started moving and accidentally hit the child, causing her to fall, be run over, and dragged several meters.

When the car stopped, a man approached it, and the driver got out.

“Allegedly unaware itong ating suspek doon sa naglalaro na biktima,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Chester Noel Borlongan, Chief of Naic Police.

According to the child's aunt, Nesley Meneses, the child's mother was busy cooking dinner after returning home from selling halo-halo. The father had gone for a walk, and the siblings were at home. The family didn't notice that the child had left the house.

“Noong pagkalabas ng bahay ng aking pamangkin, hindi ho akalain ng ina na nakarating na pala dito sa kabila, sa may laruan diyan sa labas,” said Meneses.

“May narinig na lang ‘yung kapatid ko na merong nabangga at noong tumakbo ‘yung panganay na anak, na nabangga nga raw ‘yung kanilang kapatid na bunso,” Meneses added.

In panic, the family initially brought the child back home after the accident before rushing her to the hospital. However, doctors were unable to revive her.

The police promptly arrested the suspect, who posted bail after court approval.

The suspect was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

Meneses stated that their family is determined to file charges against the suspect.

The suspect, who is reportedly a relative of their neighbor and is just staying there, has not been meeting or communicating with the victim's family.

GMA Integrated News is attempting to obtain a statement from the suspect.
