Quiboloy Engages in Bible Study While in Detention, Lawyer Reveals

Detained televangelist Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy has been focusing on Bible study during his time in detention, according to his lawyer, Atty. Mark Tolentino. During a recent visit at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Tolentino described their meeting as more of a spiritual discussion than a legal consultation.

“Nag-Bible study po kami doon. We were discussing the word of God. I am grateful to Pastor Quiboloy for the chance to have this private discussion. We talked about the Bible and its spiritual teachings. That is what we are currently focusing on,” Tolentino shared.

He added that their conversations centered on spiritual matters, noting that Quiboloy has been feeling isolated since the transfer of his four co-accused to the Pasig City Jail. "Nagpapasalamat po ako kay Pastor Quiboloy for the opportunity na one-on-one kaming dalawa lang. We talked about the Bible, yung mga spiritual na mga teachings sa Bible," Tolentino said, emphasizing that their time together was spent reflecting on religious texts rather than legal issues.

When asked about Quiboloy’s ongoing legal case and the new allegations against him, Tolentino refrained from making any statements, citing a sub judice ruling. "Sa hearing, hindi pa ako pwede magsalita kasi [may] sub judicial ruling so hindi ako pwedeng magsalita,” he explained. He reiterated the importance of presuming innocence until proven guilty, stating, "From my perspective, allegations alone do not equate to guilt. It is important to uphold the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."

Quiboloy, the self-proclaimed "Appointed Son of God" and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, surrendered to the authorities on September 8. His arrest came after police reportedly closed in on his location at the Bible School Building inside the church’s compound.

Atty. Tolentino underscored that despite the legal proceedings, Quiboloy remains focused on his faith and continues to spend his time in detention studying the Bible.
