Former President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos, the 10th President of the Philippines from 1965-1986 who ruled as a dictator under Martial Law from 1972-1981 has already been buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City on November 18, despite protests not to bury Marcos at LNMB.
It could be remembered that the Supreme Court allows burial of Marcos at Heroes Cemetery. President Duterte stands by Marcos burial, and tells protesters to handle hate.
The burial of Marcos at the Heroes Cemetery has been a controversial issue to many people particularly victims of human rights.
Gab Valenciano, the son of Gary Valenciano and Angeli Pangilinan has this Facebook post on Saturday, November 19 which he made to express his thoughts on the immediate and secret burial of Marcos at the LNMB last November 18.
According to him: “I may not be a professional analyst, but I am a citizen of this nation and will exercise my freedom to express my thoughts,” part of his Facebook post.
Gab admitted that he was not yet born when the former president ruled the country for almost 21 years, from 1965 to 1986 for he was born on June 11, 1988, two years after Marcos was ousted because of People Power Revolution in 1986.
"So in theory, I really have no right to speak on behalf of those who were truly affected."
“But I am a soul of this generation, a citizen of this country, and the issue is causing a great divide between fellow countrymen and possibly affect my future, our future.
“So yes, I believe I do have a say. And so do the young guns of this country,” Gab's FB post.
Gab commented on the immediate and secret burial of Marcos at the Heroes Cemetery saying: “Understand that forgiveness isn't merely accepting what has happened.
“True forgiveness includes acknowledgment that horrific events did indeed happen, and simply show an initiative to make up for it or even recognize the suffering of thousand or even millions of Filipinos that you caused.
“Sadly, we don't see any of this.”
He also said he did not see any regret from the Marcos family especially on what they did -- the secret burial of Marcos which Gab calls "most devious burial ceremony I have ever read about.'
'Moving on' from this specific issue is like allowing someone to brutally murder your family and decades later, just waltz right into the scene like nothing happened.
“There is no sense of humility, remorse or sympathy from the family, not to mention the recent, most devious burial ceremony I have ever read about.
“All that, above all, is what I find truly disturbing. So no, I will not move on as this is a direct attack towards our humanity. We deserve better. #marcosnotahero”
Still on Gab's Facebook post: “We are divided on every level; be it spiritually, mentally, politically and/or emotionally.
"From strangers to the closest of friends and family, there really is a sense of discord in regard to opinions, beliefs, priorities and and mindsets.”
“Filipinos are forgetful. We never learn. We seriously don't. This is a clear cut fact and has been our characteristic for decades.
“We are stubborn, complacent, entitled and boastful, partnered with an ungodly level of expectation and hope.
“Filipinos are gullible and will cling on to anything that looks, feels and sounds good.”
“Sadly, we are the type of people who, despite being warned, cross unstable bridges and once the bridge collapses, we complain and blame every single thing we can think of.”
