Dayanara Torres is a Puerto Rican actress, singer, model, writer and beauty queen who won Miss Universe 1993.
On Friday, February 2, the beauty queen talks about two of her much publicized breakups with Aga Muhlach and American singer Mark Anthony.
Dayanara was with Aga during her showbiz stint in the country. She visited the Philippines in 1994 for the Miss Universe competition in Manila and she decided to pursue a career here.
She recalled being hurt over her breakup with Aga, with whom Dayanara starred in the classic film "Basta't Kasama Kita."
According to Dayanara: "It wasn’t a terrible breakup, but I do remember being hurt and wanting to go, wanting to pack my stuff, but you know it was the way it was supposed to be."
She admitted not being in touch with Aga, adding that their "paths moved in different ways," but said that they will "always have great, great memories."
Aga is now married to Charlene Gonzales, the Philippines' bet for the 1994 Miss Universe pageant in Manila.
In 1998, Dayanara returned to Puerto Rico to continue her singing career. Two years later, the beauty queen married Mark Anthony but divorced in 2004. The couple have two boys together aged 13 and 10.
She has written a book entitled "Married to Me: How Committing to Myself Led to Triumph After Divorce" with her sister after her split with Mark.
In an interview, Dayanara said that it is "normal and natural" for a person going through a breakup to be furious or go berserk, but that was not how she dealt with her situation.
"To me, thankfully, the kids were there because I just had to focus on what they will see later on, what they will learn. I just wanted to be that kind of person so that they can continue and admire. I didn’t want to be hateful, not me."
After divorce with the American singer, Dayanara said she and Mark are "absolutely" in good terms "especially for the kids."
